All about BS6 Cars – Difference between BS4 and BS6

BS6 Cars

The Central government has mandated only Bs6 vehicles to be sold from April 2020, you must have noticed that many car manufactures are launching cars in the bs6 variant ,so what exactly is this bs6 and how is it different from bs4? Before answering all such questions lets understand what exactly Bs6 is?

Bs( Bharat Stage 6) are emission norms issued by the government of India  from the year 2000. Bharat stage norms are followed by the Euro norms. These  standards specify  the amount of air pollutant emitting from the internal combustion engine. Thus with every version of the Bharat stage the amount of air pollutants are decreased which leads to safer fuel and less air pollution.

Difference between Bs6 and Bs4

An important difference between Bs6  fuel is that it contains 5 times less sulphur than Bs4, and the nitrogen oxide  level is reduced by 25%. This not only results in cleaner fuel but also becomes more efficient. Bs6 also brings in another important element which was not present in the bs4 norm which is Real Driving Emission (RDE). RDE is implemented to measure a vehicle’s pollutant emission in real-time.

Bs6 has many benefits but due to  heavy amount of R&D put into the manufacturing of the engines thus the price of Bs6 vehicles have also increased by 10-15%, one of the main concern bs4 vehicles owners  have is that whether bs6 fuel will affect their cars, the answer is simply No, there is nothing much to worry about for bs4 car owners having petrol variants. But car owners having diesel variants might face problems as there is more technical problems in changing from bs4 to bs6. The cost for diesel variants bs6 cars may increase by 60,000- 100,000.

With Bs4 being banned from 31st April 2020 , many car manufactures have rolled out cars in bs6 variants.
